A World Religious Summit for Peace in Sapporo
A World Religious Summit for Peace is to be held ahead of the G8 summit in Sapporo, Hokkaido, on July 2 and 3.
The world religious forum will bring together leaders of traditional religious organizations from several dozen countries, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, a delegate and the deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, told Interfax-Religion.
Religious leaders will gather in Hokkaido to confer on pressing present-day issues and work out recommendations for the G8 summit.
The agenda will include nuclear disarmament, ways to combat terrorism and poverty, environmental protection, climate change and other issues. A message to be adopted by the summit will be handed to the G8 leaders, who will meet in Hokkaido on July 7 to 9, through the Japanese government.
The Japanese religious forum was initiated by the Religion and Peace World Conference
