Easter in Sarajevo

The greatest and most joyful feast-day of Orthodox Christians, and therefore of Orthodox Serbs, was celebrated solemnly in the city of Sarajevo, capital city of Bosnia and Hercegovina, on April 28, 2019. All the churches, both in the Ffederal Sarajevo as well as in Eastern (Serbian) Sarajevo, were full of Orthodox Serbs who participated in the celebration of the radiant Resurrection of Christ.

Festal solemnities of the Resurrection of the Lord in the Cathedral church of Holy Transfiguration of the Lord in Trebinje started with Paschal matins. Diocesan Bishop Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina officiated the Divine Liturgy with concelebration of the Bishop Emeritus Atanasije and the clergy of the Cathedral church.

The highest representatives of the Serbian people attend the celebration of the Patriarch’s Patron Saint-day of the Serbian Patriarch Irinej.
His Holiness Irinej, the Serbian Patriarch, received President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, and Chairman of the Presidency of the Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Milorad Dodik, at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on the occasion of Saint Lazarus Saturday, the Patron Saint-day (Slava) of His Holiness, on 20 April 2019.
