Serbian Patriarch Irinej receives Romanian delegation

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received today, on Octobar 4, 2012 at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade Mr. Dan-Radu Zatreanu, member of the Romanian Parliament, and Mr. Daniel Banu, Ambassador of Romania in Serbia with his associates. The reception was attended by His Grace Bishop Andrej of Remesiana, vicar of Serbian Patriarch.

First Hierarchal Visit to Maracay

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral served on the first Sunday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, on September 30, 2012 the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of Saint John the Baptist in Maracay. Metropolitan was served by presbyter Aleksandar Djurdjevic and protodeacon Igor Balaban. This was the first visit of one bishop to this town and this small parish which consists mosly of believers of the Serbian origin.

Prayerful memorial service to Prince Paul, Princess Olga and Prince Nikola at Cathedral church

Tonight, on October 4, 2012 after the vesper service at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch will served the memorial service for Prince Paul Karadjordjevic, Princess Olga and Prince Nikola, with the concelebration of priests and deacons of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac.

Next day, the Divine Liturgy will be served at the Cathedral Church, and later the commemoration will be served. In the afternoon hours the remains will be transferred to the church of Saint George on Oplenac.

On Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the church of Saint George on Oplenac the Divine Liturgy will be served, and the the remains of Prince Paul Karadjordjevic, Princess Olga and Prince Nikola will be buried in the crypt of the church on Oplenac.

 

Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Caracas

The celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross began with feast day vigil service in the Russian church of Saint Nicholas in Caracas which was served by archpriest Pavle Volkov and presbyter Aleksandar Djurdjevic.

The feast day's Liturgy was served by His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro kyr kyr Amfilohije, who as Bishop-Administrator of the Diocese of Buenos Aires and South-Central American for the second time is in the canonical visit to Caracas and Venezuela. The Metropolitan was concelebrated by priests Pavle and Aleksandar and protodeacon Igor Balaban, and the choir of the Russian church chanted.

Father Pavle Volkov, who was born in Serbia where his father was priest and speaks Serbian fluently, presented Metropolitan Amfilohije with an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.

WCC Central Committee meeting, 28 August - 5 September 2012

The WCC Central Committee called for the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to release from his imprisonment Archbishop Jovan of Ochrid, who is also Metropolitan of Skopje, of the Serbian Orthodox Church.  

The archbishop was arrested when crossing the border from Greece in December 2011 and convicted in absentia before being sentenced to solitary confinement. Amnesty International has recognized Archbishop Jovan as “a prisoner of conscience”.

The Central Committee encouraged the WCC international affairs commission “to organize a solidarity visit and continue to advocate for the release of Archbishop Jovan.”
