Serbian Patriarch Porfirije handed the Tomos confirming the autocephaly of the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Archdiocese of Ohrid to Archbishop Stefan (English, Greek, Russian)

On 5 June 2022, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije presided over the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy in the Cathedral church of the Holy Archangel Michael in Belgrade, with the concelebration of His Beatitude Archbishop of Ohrid and Macedonia kyr Stefan.

The Liturgy was concelebrated by Their Eminences Metropolitans: Petar of Prespa and Pelagonia, Timotej of Debar and Kičevo, Agatangel of Povardarje, Pimen of Europe, Grigorije of Kumanovo and Osogovo, and Their Graces Bishops Fotije of Zvornik–Tuzla, David of Kruševac, Stefan of Remesiana, Jerotej of Toplica – elected Bishop of Šabac, Justin of Hvosno – elected Bishop of Western Europe, Archimandrite Nektarije – elected bishop of Jegar, with the prayerful presence of His Eminence Metropolitan of Tetovo-Gostivar kyr Josif and Their Graces Bishops Kliment of Heraclea, Irinej of Bačka, Sava of Marča and retired Bishop of Canada kyr Georgije.

Encyclical on the Occasion of the Centennial Celebration of the Re-establishment of the Serbian Patriarchate

PORFIRIJE,

By the Grace of God, the Orthodox Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Serbian Patriarch, with all the hierarchs gathered at the regular annual session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops, sends this pastoral encyclical to the clergy, monastics and all sons and daughters of our Holy Church on the occasion of the celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the reestablishment of canonical unity of the Serbian Patriarchate.

We greet you with joy, dear spiritual children, from one of the three historical headquarters of the Serbian patriarchs, from the God protected Sremski Karlovci, where we are liturgically celebrating the great jubilee of the one-hundredth anniversary of the renewal of the ancient Patriarchate of Pec, the unification of all the Serbian church regions, which were until then in various statuses and jurisdictions, into one Serbian Patriarchate, which, due to the epidemic, we were unable to celebrate in 2020.

Patriarch Porfirije led the procession in the honor of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog in Nikšić

As a sign of deep faith in the Risen Christ and love and respect for the heavenly protector and patron of the city at the foot of Trebjesa, on 12 May 2022, on the day of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, the Saint Vasilije’s procession – which has been traditionally held since 1996 in memory of the day when the relics of the Saint visited the city – passed through the streets of Nikšić. The all-encompassing people’s procession, which got underway in front of the Cathedral church of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, was led by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije, who was accompanied by the competent Hierarch, His Grace Bishop of Budimlje-Nikšić kyr Metodije. Their Eminences Metropolitans kyr Nektarios of Corfu, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands and kyr Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral, as well as Their Graces Bishops Atanasije of Mileševa, Grigorije of Dusseldorf and Germany, Maxim of Western America, Irinej of Eastern America, David of Kruševac, Ilarion of Timok, Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South-Central America, Isihije of Valjevo, Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Stefan of Remesiana, took part in the procession which was going through the city streets.

Your Grace, Bishop Atanasije, thank You for the warm words of welcome. Brethren Hierarchs, brethren clerics, Venerable monks and nuns, brothers and sisters, thank you all for having come to this Holy Place with love this evening, so that we may pray to God together, and continue celebrating the joy of the Resurrection of Christ, chanting the paschal hymn and proclaiming the joyful greeting: Christ is risen! Indeed, the Lord is risen!

Centennial of the re-establishment of the Serbian Patriarchate

The celebration of the centenary of the re-establishment of the Serbian Patriarchate will be held on 14 and 15 May 2022 in Sremski Karlovci, one of the three sees of the Serbian patriarchs.

The celebration of the great church-historical jubilee will begin on Saturday, 14 May 2022, in the Cathedral church of the Holy Father Nicholas with the festive reception of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije and homeland Hierarchs, where a vespers with doxology to the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church will be served at 5 p.m.
