Patriarch Porfirije led the procession in the honor of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog in Nikšić

As a sign of deep faith in the Risen Christ and love and respect for the heavenly protector and patron of the city at the foot of Trebjesa, on 12 May 2022, on the day of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, the Saint Vasilije’s procession – which has been traditionally held since 1996 in memory of the day when the relics of the Saint visited the city – passed through the streets of Nikšić. The all-encompassing people’s procession, which got underway in front of the Cathedral church of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, was led by His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije, who was accompanied by the competent Hierarch, His Grace Bishop of Budimlje-Nikšić kyr Metodije. Their Eminences Metropolitans kyr Nektarios of Corfu, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands and kyr Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral, as well as Their Graces Bishops Atanasije of Mileševa, Grigorije of Dusseldorf and Germany, Maxim of Western America, Irinej of Eastern America, David of Kruševac, Ilarion of Timok, Kirilo of Buenos Aires and South-Central America, Isihije of Valjevo, Dimitrije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and Stefan of Remesiana, took part in the procession which was going through the city streets.

During the visit to the Metropolitanate of Dabar-Bosnia, His Holiness Pprfirije, the Serbian Patriarch walked the streets of Sarajevo and on that occasion visited the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, popularly known as the Old Church in Baščaršija, on October 17, 2021.

Patriarch Irinej officiated the Holy Liturgy and a semi-annual panichida for Bishop Milutin in the Valjevo Cathedral

Prayers for the repose of soul of one of the most eminent hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Bishop Milutin of Valjevo, who lost his earthly life six months ago, was an occasion for a magnificent prayer gathering in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Valjevo.

The Holy Hierarchal Liturgy and the memorial panichida for Bishop Milutin of blessed memory were served by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, with assistance of the administrator of the Diocese of Valjevo, Bishop Lavrentije of Sabac, Bishop Irinej of Backa, Bishop Jovan of Sumadija, Bishop Isihije of Mohács, monastics and clergy from several dioceses as well as of the Church Choir "Haji Ruvim".

Besides the relatives and friends of Bishop Milutin and many local faithful, representatives of state and local authorities, medical, educational and other public institutions and prominent businessmen from the Valjevo region took part in liturgical prayers.

His Excellency Valery Brilyov, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Serbia and on a non-residential basis in Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, and some diplomatic representatives of several countries in Belgrade, paid a prayerful tribute to this important event in the liturgical life of the Diocese of Valjevo.

Monastery church dedication feast in Gornje Zabsko

One of the most famous monasteries dedicated to the Translation of the relics of the Holy First Martyr and Archdeacon Stefan, the 15th of August, is the monastery of the Diocese of Vranje in the village of Gornje Zabsko. The feat was celebrated solemnly.

 His Garce Pahomije, Bishop of Vranje, served a festive vigil service, with concelebration of the abbot of the monastery of the Venerable Prohor of Pcinja, Archimandrite Metodije (Markovic), MA, and the archpriest-staurophore Novica Nikolic, on August 14, 2020. The nuns of the St. Stephen's convent sang responses at the vigil.

The historical diocese of Budimlje-Niksic - established by Saint Sava in 1219 - celebrated its patron saint day, the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, on August 4, 2020.

The Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the monastery of Djurđevi Stupovi, the cathedral monastery of the Diocese of Budimlje-Niksic, was officiated by His Grace Joanikije Bishop with several priests and hieromonks.

52th anniversary of pastoral and 35th anniversary of episcopal consecration of Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral

On 21th July 1968, on the feast of Holy Great-martyr Procopius of Caesarea, His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral was ordained as hieromonk at the Monastery of St. Gerasimus of Kefalonia in Argostoli, in Greek Province Kefalonia. The day before he had been ordained as hierodeacon by the same Metropolitan of Kefalonia, by whom who had taken monastic vows in 1967. Many times has His Eminence Amfilohije emphasized that Metropolitan Procopius played an important role in his life.
