30th anniversary of the consecration of Bishop Irinej of Backa

On Wednesday, 20 May 2020 it has been 30 years since the consecration of Bishop Irinej of Backa.

At the regular session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1989, hieromonk Irinej was elected as Vicar Bishop of the Serbian Patriarch, with a title of Bishop of Moravica,  and following the consecration at the Patriarchate of Pec, on 20 May 2020, he was elected Bishop of Backa and was enthroned in Novi Sad, in December of the same year.

The holiday of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark, was prayerfully celebrated on Friday, May 8. th of this year in the holy family of Jasenovac Monastery. With the sisterhood and the holy clear of our Bishop, in the monastery temple of the Birth of St. John the Forerunner, the Holy Liturgy was served by His Grace Bishop of Pakrac and Slavonia Jovan.

In the birthplace of Patriarch Pavle of blessed repose, some two thousand people from several dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church gathered in the morning hours on the feast day of Saint George, November 16, 2019, to participate in the solemn act of consecrating the Holy Apostles church at Kucanci (photo gallery).

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, arrived, accompanied by His Grace Bishop Jovan of Slavonia and other hierarchs, arrived in the churchyard, where the ceremonial gauntlet consisted of the Guardians of the Tomb of Christ, women dressed in Slavonian folk costume, pious people from the Diocese of Slavonia with clergy, monastics and guests from all over Serbia.

President Trump congratulates Diocese of Eastern America

The President of the United States of America offered his congratulations in a letter of April 14, 2019 to the Diocese of Eastern America, which is headed by His Grace Bishop Irinej (Dobrijevic), on the 800th Anniversary of the Autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church.     

“Dear Friends, Melania and I send our warmest greetings to the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Eastern America in celebration of your 800th Anniversary.” The President continued by noting: “We are grateful for the many years your Diocese has served it people.”  

Central celebration of the jubilee of 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Zica Monastery

This year we were greeted by the light of a great event that encircles eight centuries of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

On this occasion, the central jubilee celebration was held at the Zica Monastery on October 6, 2019. The ancient endowment (foundation) of our illustrious ancestors Nemanjics welcomed this event in an unbearable beauty that hasn’t been put out by flames and bombs of invaders who have been trying for centuries to extinguish the candle of faith that was lit in the soul of a Serb by the our god-father Sava eight centuries ago.
