His Holiness notes positive dynamics in Church-state cooperation in Uzbekistan

Speaking at the Bishops’ Council the Primate of the Russian Church said: “Positive dynamics can be observed in cooperation between the Church and the state in the Republic of Uzbekistan which I visited last autumn.

“Dialogue of the Diocese of Tashkent with state authorities is bringing results conducive to the formation and preservation of the climate of peace and mutual understanding in both national and religious spheres.”

Bishops’ Council given information on Patriarch ministry in inter-council period

At the first session of the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church, the summarized information on the work carried out by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia in the inter-council period was given.

Announcing the report, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia noted, ‘For the last two years I have made 51 visitations to dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, visiting 43 dioceses including those in Kirgizia and Uzbekistan. Altogether for almost nine years since my election to the Patriarchal see of Moscow I have made 221 trips to 116 dioceses’.

Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine gives an address at the Bishops’ Council

On 30 November 2017, the second day of the Council’s work, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine presented a report about the life of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the present context and her peacemaking service. He mentioned the seizure of churches belonging to the communities of the canonical Church, the initiatives to discriminate the largest religious organization in Ukraine, and the problem with the state registration of the parishes. Metropolitan Onufry noted, however, that despite challenges and problems in the relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the state, certain positive tendencies are observed.

After the Divine Liturgy and a thanksgiving at the relics of St. Tikhon the Patriarch of Moscow, the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church has begun its first plenary session at the Church Councils Hall of the Cathedral Church of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. It is chaired by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

Patriarch Kirill announces statistical data on the life of the Russian Orthodox Church

The Russian Orthodox Church unites 303 dioceses, that is, 10 more than in 2016 and 144 more than in 2009. This was reported by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in his remarks at the opening of the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church on November 29, 2017.In the inter-council period, 3 metropolias were established, now their number has reached 60.
