Russian Families Hit by Summer Wildfires Enjoy a Week in Cyprus

As part of a charity initiative organized by Uniastrum Bank and the Bank of Cyprus, residents from the Volgograd region and Lukhovitsky district met with the Primate of the Cypriot Orthodox Church and Cyprus's first lady.

Moscow, Russia, March 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On March 9 Russian families met with Archbishop Chrysostomos II, head of the Church of Cyprus, at the Archbishop's Palace in Nicosia. Later that day they were welcomed at the Presidential Palace by the wife of the Cypriot President, Elsie Chiratou. On both occasions the families were visibly moved by the warmth of the reception, as well as by the words of support and encouragement offered.

His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate was in a two-day visit to the Athenian Archbishopric on April 9th and 10th, 2011.

Especially Magnitude 7 earthquake on April 7 added damages on the damaged. The specialist says this kind of aftershock may repeat one year. And two persons were found in dead: Andrei YONESATO Kimiyosi, Moisei NAKAGAWA Iyoji. Peter ENDO Iwao, died from earthquake shock. Missing persons: SATO Eigo, YAMAMOTO Michiko (not yet baptized), Feodosii YONESATO, Matronа YOKOTA Michiko are still not found. Please add them in your prayer.

Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates first saints canonisation in 47 years

Bulgaria's Christian Orthodox Church celebrated on Sunday canonisation its first saints in 47 years. Hundreds of worshippers packed the golden-domed Alexander Nevski cathedral in Sofia for the canonisation of the victims of the bloody crushing of an 1876 uprising against Bulgaria's Ottoman rule.
