Maritime cross procession held in defense of Church in Montenegro

While the Orthodox faithful in Montenegro held cross processions twice a week for several months at the beginning of the year in defense of the rights of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro, they have been limited for several months now due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Nevertheless, the faithful take every opportunity to express their support for their Church and its sacred sites and treasures, against the background of the law passed in December that essentially grants the state the right to confiscate Serbian Orthodox Church properties.

Marking the Tenth Anniversary of the Repose of Metropolitan Christopher

 

His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher (Kovacevich) of the Libertyville-Chicago Metropolitanate and Senior Hierarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North and South America, reposed in the Lord on the eve of the Great Feast of the Transfiguration, Wednesday, August 18, 2010.

For most of his 60 years of devoted service in the Serbian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Christopher labored as a priest, counselor, youth worker, administrator, educator and bishop before becoming spiritual leader of the Church in the Americas.

Monastery church dedication feast of St. Stephen in Slanci

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej officiated on the occasion of the monastery church dedication day, the feast of the Translation of the relics of the Holy Archdeacon Stefan, the Holy Liturgy in the monastery dedicated to that First martyr in Slanci near Belgrade, on August 15, 2020.

During the Liturgy His Holiness the Patriarch ordained monk Irinej (Pruginic) as hieromonk, whereas monk Andrej (Jovanovic) was ordained as hierodeacon. After the Liturgy during which commemoration prayers were offered for repose of the soul of the late abbot Archimandrite Andrej, the Patriarch blessed the feast wheat loaf with the host, guardian of this holy monastery at Slanci,  hieromonk Stefan.

35th anniversary of Episcopal ministry of Bishop Nikanor of Banat

Bishop Nikanor (baptismal name Veljko Bogunovic) was born at Medvedja, Dalmatia, on August 20, 1952.

He finished the Theological school of the Holy Three Hierarchs in the Krka Monastery in 1975 and was tonsured on August 27, 1975. He was ordained as hierodeacon on the feast-day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God on August 28, 1975.  He graduated at the Moscow Theological Academy in Zagorsk (Sergiev Posad), Russia, in 1979. Having been ordained a hieromonk on January 1, 1978, he undertook his postgraduate theological studies in Germany (1981).

His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Nis visited the Clinical Center in Nis on 13th August 2020.

On that occasion, His Grace had a conversation with PhD doctors: Vladan Cosic, Deputy General Director; Goran Stanojevic, Assistant Director for Professional Medical Matters and Surgery, and Nikola Milenkovic, specilized epidemiologist.
