The 70th Anniversary of the Betrayal of the Cossacks in Lienz is Remembered

On June 1, 2015, a memorial service was held at the Chapel of the Protection of the Mother of God and Royal Martyr Tsarevich Alexei in Lienz, Austria, to mark the 70th anniversary of the betrayal of the Cossacks by the Allies following World War II. This was one of the most tragic post-war events, during which, despite assurances to the contrary, thousands of Cossacks were forcibly repatriated to the USSR to face certain imprisonment and death.

His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia led the service.
