On 7th July 2018, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, following an invitation from His Holiness Francis, Pope of Rome, arrived in Bari, in Italy, to participate in the “day of prayer” for the Middle East. Bari in Italy is considered to be the gateway of the East and has St Nicholas as its Patron Saint.

For this reason, all the religious leaders who participate, began their programme praying at the Church in which the Saint’s relics are kept. The main foundation and idea for the initiative is that the differences should be solved through dialogue and no through violence, particularly in the region of the Middle East, mother of all the monotheistic religions. The religious leaders will attempt to find new effective ways of communicating and exchanging useful ideas and thought, for the effective support of peace.
