Ambassador of Hungary visits Bishop Irinej of Backa

His Grace Bishop Dr Irinej of Backa received on June 24, 2011 in the Bishop's Palace in Novi Sad, the ambassador of Hungary, His Excellency Oscar Nikovic.

In an open dialogue, led in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, it was discussed on a mission and witnessing of the Church on modern world. It was especially stressed the responsibility of the Church for spiritual and moral health of the people and holding an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding among peoples and nations, especially neighbouring, as are the Serbian and Hungarian people. This role of the Church is more significant because in tha last centuries the Christian values and moral principles were sistematically  destroyed. Considering this, as a positive example towards Christian values, the new changes in the Constitution of Hungary were pointed out, regarding the protection of the human life since the moment of conception.

The both sides agreed that the Diocese of Backa, ie. the Serbian Orthodox CHurch as a whole deserved a special attention because it gives an extraordinary significance towards fostering trusts and mutual cooperation between Churches and  religious communities, as well as good relations between the Serbian people and other peoples in Serbia, among those the Hungarian people has a honorable and respected place.
