Archbishop Chrisostomos meets with Pope Benedict in Cyprus

On Sunday, June 6, 2010 the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Cyprus was over. The Head of the Roman Catholic Church was greeted by the head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Archbishop Chrisostomos II, with the members of the Holy Synod.

Archbishop Chrisostomos spoke on the significance of the Church of Cyprus as the apostolic, as it gained the autocephaly at the III Ecumenical Council in 431. He also pointed out that since 1974, when the Turkish army invaded the northern part of the island, Cyprus has been going through the hardest moments in its history. He also expressed a hope in further dialogue between the Churches.
