Archbishop Elpidophoros: We are building Saint Nicholas for those who perished on 9/11

Archbishop Elpidophoros: We are building Saint Nicholas for those who perished on 9/11Today marks 19 years since the terrorist attacks on the “Twin Towers” in New York.

On Liberty Street, opposite the south tower of the World Trade Center, was the Greek Orthodox Shrine of Saint Nicholas. It was the only religious site destroyed by the 9/11 attacks.

It is noted that the reconstruction of the Temple at “Ground Zero” has already begun and the personal commitment of the Archbishop Elpidophoros is that its doors will open by September 2021, when it will mark 20 years since the day of the terrorist attacks.

According to the message of the Archbishop Elpidophoros on social media, he said:

“Today, at Ground Zero, we remembered the lives lost on 9/11, their families and friends, and all those heroes who gave the last full measure. We are rebuilding St. Nicholas for them, and to build a better world. May God grant comfort to all who mourn this day ”.
