The Archive of Serbia receives the Order of Saint Sava
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, presented the highest distinction of the Serbian Orthodox Church – the Order of Saint Sava of the First Degree to the Archive of Serbia at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on 20 February 2014.
On behalf of the Archive of Serbia, its Director, Dr. Miroslav Perisic, received this highest award of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The decision about presenting the Order of Saint Sava of the First Degree for the professional engagement of the Archive of Serbia in preservation, arrangement and processing the archival material of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country and abroad, was brought by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, at the proposal of Patriarch Irinej.
During the ceremony, Patriarch Irinej thanked for the professional assistance of the Archive of Serbia in the cause of preserving archival material of the ecclesiastical origin, and expressed a hope that the issue of the permanent accommodation of the archival material of the Serbian Orthodox Church would be successfully solved with joint efforts of the Church, the State and the Archive of Serbia.
This is the second order which the Archive of Serbia received in last five days. We remind that on the occasion of the Church-national feast-day - Presentation of Jesus into the Temple – which is the Statehood Day of Serbia - by decree of the President of the Republic of Serbia for special merits in preserving cultural and historical heritage of Serbia, on the occasion of 115 years of existence and successful work, the Archive of Serbia was awarded with the Sretenje Order of the Second Degree.
