The Beginning of the church school year

To all Church-School Congregations, Parish administrations, Parents, and
Teachers of Church and Serbian Schools, and
Folklore groups of the
Diocese of Eastern America of the
Serbian Orthodox Church

Beloved in the Risen Lord

In accordance with the rich tradition of our Holy Orthodox Church, the 2017/2018 school year will begin with prayer services for the beginning of the school year, when the whole of our diocese will collectively enroll our children in Church and Serbian Schools, as well as in Folklore groups. It is the genuine wish of the Diocese of Eastern America that this day is observed on the second Sunday of September in a spirit of Sabornost (in unity). On this day, we will in one spirit pray to the Lord to send upon our children the spirit of wisdom and understanding, but also to enlighten their hearts to enable them to absorb and adopt true teaching.

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, the Department of Christian Education has compiled the text of the service in both Serbian and English languages, which we now send to all Church-School Congregations for local usage.

May the Lord God, who with wisdom created all, bless the beginning of this school year so that we may with all the saints understand length and width, depth and height, and understand the love of Christ which overshadows all understanding ( Eph. 4:17).
