Bishop Ilarion of Timok – sixth anniversary of Diocesan ministry
Six years of dedicated and fruitful archpastoral ministry of the Bishop of Timok Ilarion (Golubovic).
The tenth day of August, of the year of the Lord 2014, is written in golden letters in the history of the God-protected Diocese of Timok. On that day, when the Holy Church celebrates prayerful remembrance of the Holy Glorious and All-Praiseworthy Apostles and Deacons Prohor, Nicanor, Timon and Parmen, the decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops was implemented in May of the same year, when Very Venerable Archimandrite Ilarion (Golubović), abbot of the sacred St. Nicholas monastery of the Bukovo monastery, was consecrated as Bishop.
His Grace Bishop Hilarion was born in 1974 in Zajecar. He finished primary and secondary school in Zajecar, whereupon he went to the Crna Reka monastery, where he spent some time getting familiar with monastic life until he had to do his Army service starting in in September 1993. Immediately after completing his military service in 1994, he joined the Bukovo monastery brotherhood. He was tonsured a monk in 1997, and was ordained as deacon in May of the same year. On December 19, 1997, Revd. Ilarion was ordained as hieromonk on the feast-day of St. Nicholas and appointed abbot of the Bukovo monastery in 1998.
He was promoted to the rank of a protosyncellos in 2002, and to the rank of an archimandrite in 2006. He graduated from the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade in July 2013, whereupon he continued his post-graduate theological education.
At their regular session in May 2014, the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church elected Archimandrite Hilarion as the new Bishop of Timok. The ordination and enthronement of the Bishop of Timok was performed by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Zajecar with concelebration of several hierarchs, on August 10, 2014.
