Celebration of the Greek Independence Day in Belgrade
On the occasion of the National holiday of the Liberation Day from the Turkish captivity and memory of liberation uprisings from 1821, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch,officieted the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with Doxology at the Patriarchal church of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Gusher in Belgrade оn 25th March 2018.
On this occasion His Holiness Irinej ordained hierodeacon Amvrosije (Vesic), Doctor of the National Technical University and PhD student of the course Liturgics at the Faculty of Theology in Athens, as hieromonk.
According to the tradition lasting almost fifty years, ambassadors and military attachés of the Republic of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus attend Doxology at the side chapel of the Serbian Patriarchate, along with the staff of the embassies and members of the Greek community in the Serbian capital, Belgrade. The service was also attended by members of the Committee on Fostering Traditions of Liberation Wars of Serbia up to 1918.
The Serbian Patriarch was concelebrated by Archimandrite Evdokimos Karakoulakis, spiritual father of Fr. Amvrosije from Athens; protopresbyters-staurophors Prof. Vladimir Vukasinovic, PhD, hierarchal dean of Belgrade; Dragi Veskovac, Secretary of the Bishop of Krusevac, etc.
Students of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade sang responses.
