On the occasion of marking the Day of liberation of the Turks of the town of Vranje in 1878, on the feast day of Saints Athanasius the Great, Cyril of Alexandria and Maxim the Serbian Archbishop, on 31 January 2013,  Bishop Pahomije of Vranje celebrated the Divine Liturgy with clergy of Vranje at the Cathedral church of Holy Trinity. The Divine Liturgy was attended by Mr. Zoran Antic,Mayor of Vranje with associates and members of 4th Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces led by its Commander Colonel Zoran Lubura. Following the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Pahomije served the memorial service to leaders and soldiers, led by General Jovan Belimarkovic, who gave their lives for the precious cross and the fatherland while liberating Vranje.

Bishop Pahomije attended in the afternoon a military ceremony at the barracks “1st infantry regiment of Prince Milos the Greati” in Vranje, on the occasion of the Day of 4th Brigade of the Serbian Armed Forces.

After the military ceremony, Bishop Pahomije received at the Diocesan court the delegation of the Brjuhovec district of the Russian Federation and representatives of the Kuban Cossacks, and informed them about the life and the work of the Diocese of Vranje, talked with them about the future cooperation and presented the work of the Serbian-Russian Cultural centre in Bujanovac.

The celebration of Saint Athanassius the Great and Liberation Day of Vranje ended with the Solemn academy at the Army House in Vranje.
