Celebration of National Anniversary in Alexandria
On 28th October 2013, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria. He also presided over the Doxology immediately thereafter for the National Anniversary and the memorial prayers for those Egyptians fighters who fell during the national epic of the year 1940.
Making his first appearance at these events was His Excellency the Governor of Alexandria, General Tarek El Mahdy, to whom His Beatitude expressed his gratitude for his presence and trust in the enormous efforts he has undertaken to reform Alexandria. Also present were the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Christos Kapodistrias, the Registrar of the Educational Institutes of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr. Paris Makris, the Chairman of the Cypriot Brotherhood Mr. Haralambos Haralambides, Chairman of Societies and Officials of the city, teachers and pupils of the Hellenic Schools and other dignitaries.
His Beatitude then had a private meeting in his Patriarchal Office with His Excellency General Tarek El Mahdy, whom he assured of the unwavering support of the Patriarchate for every initiative to bring the city to normality following the political and social upheaval of the past two years. They discuss issues regarding the incorporation of the monuments and museums of the See into the tourism map of the city and they exchanged views on undertaken common philanthropic activities. His Beatitude then took his high-ranking guest on a conducted tour of the Patriarchal Mansion, especially renovations of the museums which are nearing completion in the Greco-Roman reservoirs and also the Patriarchal Library.
