Centenary of the church of Saint Elijah in Gornje Zabrdje
Marking the 100th anniversary of the church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Gornje Zabrdje began on Saturday, 7 September 2013
His Grace Bishop Hrizostom of Zvornik-Tuzla served vigil service with the concelebration of the local priests. His Grace Bishop held a sermon in which he said that our ancestors built churches not only for themselves, but also for future generations.
Following the service a solemn academy was held at the church courtyard, at which there were many interesting participants: Church choir “Teodul” from Gornje Zabrdje, actor Lepomir Ivkovic from Belgrade, musical school “Kornelije Stankovic” from Ugljevik, chanters of the Byzantine church chanting from Novi Sad and Belgrade.
On Sunday, 8 September, before the beginning of the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy, His Grace Bishop consecrated a restored church. More than thousand people attended the Holy Liturgy. After the service, Bishop Hrizostom presented gramatas to great benefactors of the church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Gornje Zabrdje. After presenting gramatas, there was a procession around the church and consecration of the Saint Sava house.
