Chapel of the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God at the Military Academy consecrated

The adoption of the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces in December 2007 provided conditions that religious services could be organized within the Serbian Armed Forces. That move was supported by all traditional Churches and religious communities. The Government of Serbia passed a decree on the introduction of religious services in the Serbian Armed Forces on 24 March 2011, and later on it signed similar agreements with the representatives of seven traditional Churches and religious communities.

In the Serbian Armed Forces, after more than seven decades, chaplains have been re-employed – eight Orthodox priests and one imam and one Catholic chaplain. Consequently, the Serbian Army offers today religious services, exercising in this way the constitutional right of the Army members to have a freedom of confession.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, consecrated a new liturgical space, a chapel dedicated to the Protection of the Most Holy Mother of God at the Military Academy in Belgrade on 26 January 2014.
