The Patron Saint-day (slava) of the church of Holy Emperor Constantine and Helen, Equal-to-the-Apostles, in the Vozdovac district of Belgrade was marked with a solemn Patriarchal Liturgy.
His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the service with the concelebration of protopresbyter-staurophors Branko Topalovic and Dragomir Ubiparipovic, protopresbyter Djordje Popovic, presbyter Sladjan Vlajic, as well as deacons Veroljub Sando and Aleksandar Savic.
For the glory of the God and in honour of the patron of the church, a choir of this church under guidance of Branko Tadic chanted responses.
Voždovac church - a pearl of the God-protected City of Belgrade
For the glory of God and in honour of the Holy Emperor Constantine and Helen, Equal-to-the-Apostles, as an expression of great prayerful respect, our pious and Christ-loving people erected numerous holy churches that adorn our local Church. Among the important churches that have been built in their honour, the Vozdovac church, that occupies a special and worthy of praise place, which celebrated a great jubilee – 100th anniversary of its existence in the year of the Lord 2011, and which illuminates the God-guarded capital city of Belgrade with its sanctity and living liturgical community. Our eminent professor and well-known theologian Archdeacon Radomir Rakic, who was also a long-term cleric in front of the altar of God at the Voždovac church, spoke beautifully about the significance of the Vozdovac shrine and exposed history of this wonderful church of God just on the occasion of the centenary of its existence.
It is important to emphasize that this church is adorned with two great shrines that it is proud of, with the blessing of Serbian Patriarch German of blessed repose: a Particle of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord and an omophorion of St. Basil the Wonderworker of Ostrog.
