Church of Greece to distribute leaflets about the cremation of dead

The decision to distribute leaflets to the faithful to inform them about the cremation of the dead was made at the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod which was concluded today after three-day sessions.

The Holy Synod emphasised that the Church duly stressed this issue based upon the doctrinal teaching of the Bible and the tradition of the Church.

The Holy Synod also examined the letter sent by the Theologians’ Union. The body was also informed about the recent ruling issued by the European Court of Human Rights regarding religious education, and awaits the actions of the minister of Education and Religious Affairs.

The Standing Holy Synod approved the appointment of Archimandrite Varnavas Theocharis as Protosyncellus of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens at the recommendation of Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece.

It was also informed by the Special Synodical Committee for Cultural Identity about its actions during the years 2020-2021 as well as the meeting of the representatives of the Holy Metropolises of the Church of Greece to organise the celebrations for the two-hundredth anniversary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.
