Commemoration rite to victims of the Novi Sad Raid
The central program on the occasion of the marking of the 73rd anniversary of the Novi Sad Raid was held at the Quai of the Raid Victims at noon, on Friday, 23rd January, 2015.
Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Serbian Armed Forces, the city of Novi Sad, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Jewish Community in Novi Sad, ambassadors of Israel and Hungary in Serbia, as well as lots of people gathered at the monument of the Families; by this act they wanted to show that the terrible event from January 1942 has was not forgotten and that our duty was to remember innocently killed victims.
Mayor of Novi Sad Mr. Milos Vucevic greeted all the present, and called them to pay a tribute to the victims of the Novi Sad Raid with a moment of silence. The Novi Sad Raid was the event during which members of the Hungarian occupation army from 21-23 January 1942 killed and threw under the ice of the Danube more several thousands of the Novi Sad citizens.
On behalf of the Jewish Community of Serbia, the commemoration was held by Rabi Isaac Asiel.
His Grace Bishop Irinej of Novi Sad and Backa served the commemoration Church rite for repose of souls of the victims of the Novi Sad Raid, with the concelebration of Bishop Jeronim of Jegar and clergy of Novi Sad.
