Communiqué

At today's session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops decisions were made concerning some vacant dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Two vacant dioceses have been filled, and others, for important practical reasons, will still have administrators in charge. Specifically, the present Diocesan Bishop of Bihac-Petrovac Hrizostom will occupy the vacant throne of bishops of the Zvornik-Tuzla Diocese, and the present Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno was elected as Bishop of the vacant Diocese of Bihac-Petrovac.

As administrator of the Diocese of Middle Europe Serbian Patriarch Irinej was confirmed; Bishop Jovan of Sumadija as administrator of the Diocese of Zica; Bishop Irinej of Backa as administrator of the Diocese of Austria-Switzerland, and Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral as administrator of the Diocese of Latin and Central America.

The Deputy of Metropolitan Nikolaj of Dabar-Bosnia will remain Bishop Grigorije of Zahumlje-Herzegovina.

The members of the Holy Synod of Bishops in a new convocation are Bishops: Vasilije of Srem, Jovan of Sumadija, Hrizostom of Zvornik-Tuzla and Teodosije of Raska-Prizren.

With this meeting, the working part of this annual session of the Holy Assembly of Bishops is concluded, and its work will be prayerfully crowned with celebration of  the Divine Liturgy in Nis on the feast- day of Sts. Emperor Constantine and Helen (3rd June). In this way the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan will be celebrated at our local level, as a preparation for its general celebration in October of this year.
