This prestigious award is given every year for past the 31 years to the projects that are renovated, preserved, or restored and we are very proud that Saint Sava Cathedral Church first phase of renovation is recognized and awarded.”
In the true fashion of our royalty and nobility, who were benefactors, beautifiers, and patrons of many of our religious, cultural, and patrimonial heritage, Crown Prince Alexander is the Royal Patron of the Restoration and Development Project of the St. Sava Cathedral, which was destroyed by fire on Orthodox Easter, May 1, 2016. The Holy Bishop Nicholai of Zhicha and Ochrid, who lived at the Cathedral complex in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s, is the Patron Saint of the Restoration and Development Committee.
The St. Sava Cathedral, together with its Church Hall and Rectory was designated a Landmark Building by the City of New York on April 18, 1968, and subsequently, in December 1982, it was designated a National Landmark by the Federal Government of the United States of America.
