On April 24, 2016, the Day of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow.

During the liturgy, Archimandrite Ioann (Rudenko) was consecrated as Bishop of Vorkuta and Usinsk. The diocese of Vorkuta was established in the Komi Republic in accordance with the Holy Synod resolution of April 16, 2016.

His Holiness Kirill was assisted by a great assembly of bishops who came from all over Russian and Moscow clergy.

Present at the service were S. Gaplikov, acting head of the Komi Republic, S. Obryvalin, Russia’s deputy minister of culture, A. Ivanov, head of Odintsovo district in the Moscow Region, and I. Dodon, chairman of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova.

During the Lesser Entry, on the occasion of Holy Pascha and in recognition of their zealous service of the Holy Church, Patriarch Kirill, awarded some clergy of the Moscow city diocese and Patriarchal monasteries with the right to wear a decorated cross.

The sermon before communication was delivered by Father Alexander Volkov, head of the Patriarchal Press Service.

The Patriarchal service was broadcast live by Soyuz TV network.

After the liturgy His Holiness gave an instruction to Bishop Ioann for his episcopal service and presented him with the bishop’s crosier.

Then His Holiness led the congregation in the praise of the feast and addressed himself to the faithful with a primatial homily.

In the sanctuary, Patriarch Kirill congratulated the clergy on their awards. Archpriest Oleg Korytko, leader of the patriarchal reviewers, spoke in response on behalf of those awarded.
