Decisions of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church
The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church gathered Thursday, 25 February 2016, in a working session, at the Patriarchal Residence in Bucharest. His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel chaired the meeting.
Among the decisions taken, we note:
1. The canonization of the venerable fathers Neophyte and Meletios of Stânişoara Monastery (Feast Day - September 3rd), and Daniel and Misael of Turnu Monastery (Feast Day - October 5th);
2. The Holy Synod reaffirmed the importance of the cultural and religious heritage, the obligation of conserving, consolidating and restoring churches - historical monuments, and the need to continue the construction works of places of worship which have already been started, due to the fact that the state has worryingly diminished its support in this respect;
3. The Holy Synod has determined the preparation steps for the International Meeting of the Orthodox Youth, an event organized by the Romanian Patriarchate and the Archdiocese of Bucharest, that is to take place in Bucharest, during 1 to 4 September 2016;
4. The blessing (approval) of the Holy Synod was granted to a group of Romanian Orthodox legal experts for the establishment of the Association of Orthodox Legal Experts, which aims at defending and supporting the institution of the Church and her activities in the society;
5. The Holy Synod established the merit scholarship of Saint Hieromartyr Anthimos the Ivirite for pupils and students with outstanding school and academic results, but belonging to low-income families;
6. The Holy Synod has appreciated the pastoral activity undertaken by the Romanian Orthodox hierarchs from abroad in 2015, with the prospect of setting up new church units;
7. The selection criteria of the members of the Romanian Orthodox Church delegation to the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church, that will take place at the Orthodox Academy of Chania, Crete, during 18 to 27 June 2016, have also been established.
