Divine Liturgy and Serbfest in Chicago

In conjunction with the 20th Annual SerbFest at Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, His Grace Bishop Longin of Midwestern America and New Gracanica presided over a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 7th, 2011, with the concelebration of esteemed guest hierarch, His Grace Bishop Peter of Clevelend (Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia), the following priests: V. Rev.  Vasilije Sokolovic, V. Rev.  Lazar Kostur, Rev. Darko Spasojevic – Cathedral Dean, Rev. Radovan Jakovljevic, Rev. Vasilije Vranic, Rev. Dragan Micanovic, as well as deacons: Rev. Vadim Gan, Rev. Dr. Damjan S. Bozic, Rev. Teodor Sokolovic, and Rev. Nikolai Kostur.  The Very Reverend Dennis Pavichevich, retired Dean of Holy Resurrection Cathedral, also attended the Liturgy.

This year’s SerbFest, an annual celebration of Serbian culture, music, and cuisine established in 1991 and sustained by the parishioners and volunteers of this largest Serbian Church community in the United States, was visited by more than 50,000 people from Chicago and surrounding areas.

During the liturgical celebration which took place on the last day of the festival, His Grace Bishop Longin elevated Cathedral Dean, Fr. Darko Spasojevic, to the rank of Protonamesnik, and awarded Deacon Dr. Damjan Bozic with the right to wear the red sash.  In extending this Archpastoral recognition to these two clergymen for their dedicated pastoral work at Holy Resurrection Cathedral, Bishop Longin said, “may this humble award encourage you to work even more for the welfare of our Holy and martyric Serbian Orthodox Church.”

Following the Divine Service, the Right Reverend Hierarchs visited the festival and enjoyed an agape luncheon and the melodies of traditional Serbian music together with their people.
