St. Vladimir’s Seminary Pres’s Children’s Book Receives Gold Medal

St. Vladimir’s Seminary Press (SVS Press)— the publishing arm of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers, NY—has garnered a gold medal for its storybook, Saint George & the Dragon, written by Jim Forest and illustrated in iconographic style by Vladislav Andrejev. SVS Press & Bookstore Marketing Manager Dn. Gregory Hatrak was recently notified that the children’s book had received a 2012 Moonbeam Spirit Award.

Russia helps reconstruct Orthodox monasteries in Kosovo

Russia is helping reconstruct orthodox monasteries in Kosovo, ITAR-TASS reported.

Currently four orthodox monasteries in Kosovo are being restored. Moscow has allocated USD 2 million for the projects.

Interfaith Forum “Living together is the Future” held in Sarajevo completes its work

On 11 September 2012, the Interfaith Forum “Living together is the Future”, held in Sarajevo, completed its work. The Forum, organized by the Community of Sant’Egidio together with the Serbian Orthodox Church, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vrhbosna-Sarajevo, and Islamic and Jewish Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, gathered several hundreds of representatives of various religions from all over the world.

On September 18, 2012, before the conclusion of his primatial visit to Japan, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia answered questions from Russian and Japanese mass media.

Speaking about his meeting with Emperor Akihito of Japan, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said that during the meeting with the Japanese monarch, an exchange of opinions took place, especially about the role and importance of the work of St. Nicholas of Japan ‘who founded a Church which exists to this day and which certainly constitutes one of the bridges uniting the people of Japan with the people of Russia on the level of heartfelt relations’.
