Biography of Bishop Isihije of Valjevo
Archimandrite Isihije (Rogic) was born on November 3, 1965 in Moscow, from father Milutin and mother Jelena Rogic. He lived in Belgrade, but, due to his father's diplomatic service, spent most of his childhood and youth abroad. In addition to Moscow, he lived in Beijing in China, Rangoon in Burma, Khartoum in Sudan and in Washington DC, the United States.
He attended elementary and high school in English and Serbian. In 1985, he finished the Design High School in Belgrade and gained the title of a graphic art technician. In the period 1987-1991 he studied psychology at the University of Columbia in Washington (USA), and at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade. He graduated theology at the Orthodox Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade in 2018.
At the very beginning of spiritual and material reconstruction of the Kovilj Monastery, n. Novi Sad, which was launched by present Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, father Ishije joined the Kovilj monastic brotherhood in 1991 as a novice, and some time later he received monastic tonsure by the hand of His Grace Bishop Irinej of Novi Sad and Backa, on the feast-day of the Presentation of the Lord in 1995. The then Bishop Porfirije of Jegar and abbot of Kovilj monastery ordained him as hierodeacon on July 18, 1999, and a week later he was ordained as hieromonk. The dignity of Archimandrite was bestowed on him on November 21, 2014, and, at the proposal of the Abbot and Brotherhood of Kovilj, he was appointed Principal of the Kovilj monastery.
At the regular May gathering of the Holy Assembly of Bishops on the 9th of May, 2018, Archimandrite Isihije was elected as Vicar Bishop of the Diocesan Bishop of Bachka Dr. Irinej, with the title of Bishop of Mohacs.
The Very Venerable Isihije will be consecrated as Bishop in the Cathedral in Novi Sad on the 24th of June 2018.
