Feast Day of Most Holy Mother of God in the Diocese of Vranje

A great feast day of Most Holy Mother of God was celebrated in ancient shrines in Mrtvica and Korbevcu

On the Eve of the feast day of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God, on 27 August 2019, His Grace BIshop Pahomije of Vranje served the Vigil service in the monastery in the village of Mrtvica near Dzep, an ancient sacred place dedicated to the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. On the feast day, Bishop Pahomije celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. 

The church of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God in Korbevac is an ancient holy place which is known that it used to be a monastery in the time of the Nemanjics. It was destroyed and restored many times. After this year's restoration of the church fragments of frescoes from 16th and 17th century were found. One of the places where Bulgarians during its occupation commited atrocities was also Korbevac. Precisely in the Holy Martyrs of Surdulica: Manasija Popovic, Aleksa Popovic, Kosta Popovic and Miajlo Mladenovic. Beside them, priests who were killed in later sufferings of the Serbian people were buried: Rista K. Popovic, Ljuba Popovic, Arsa Popovic, Stojko Popovic, Janicije Kaludjerovic, Anta Stamenkovic, Milan Stevanovic and Anta Popovic.
