Feast of the Parish of St. Andrew in Ghent
On Sunday, December 1, 2019, the homonymous parish in Ghent celebrated its patron saint, Saint Andrew the First-Called. After a canonical permission and invitation by Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, Metropolitan Athanasios of Achaia, Director of the Representative Office of the Church of Greece in the UN, presided over the Divine Liturgy, with the participation of clergy from the Metropolis of Belgium and the Church of Greece, in the presence of a crowd of people.
In his sermon, Metropolitan Athanasios analyzed the evangelical passage and at the end of the Divine Liturgy congratulated the parish priests on the rich pastoral work they perform. He then expressed his joy for the opportunity which enabled him to be in Ghent in order to officiate at the Liturgy and communicate with the clergy and the faithful of the parish.
A rich reception for the whole congregation followed in the parish hall.
