The Feast of St. Mardarije of Libertyville in Johnstown
On the 12th of December, 2019, priests from the Pittsburgh deanery gathered together to celebrate the feast of St. Mardarije of Libertyville.
The marvelous celebration of the divine liturgy for the feast day of St. Mardarije took place at St. Nicholas parish in Johnstown. The priests who celebrated the liturgy were helped by the choir of St. Nicholas Church in giving honor to Christ our God and to his Saint, bishop Mardarije of Libertyville.
In his sermon, Fr. Milan Dragovic pointed out that St. Mardarije was a tireless worker in God’s vineyard and a cross-bearer till the very end of his life. Often rejected by his priests and people he found comfort in God and taught each and every one of us that in the midst of the chaos of our lives, God is our safe harbor and refuge.
The celebration of this feast day continued with lunch prepared by the parishioners of St. Nicholas church who have shown themselves to be amazing hosts. The joy of St. Mardarije’s feast permeated the souls of the people present and the celebration continued with giving thanks to God and traditional Serbian songs. The host for the next year’s celebration will be the Holy Resurrection Church in Steubenville.
