Feast-Day of Saint Basil the Great in Szeged
Orthodox faithful in Szeged, Hungary, thanked the Lord for His philanthropy
On 14 January 2019, when our holy Church prayerfully remembers Saint Basil the Great, the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in Szeged was served by Bishop Lukijan of Buda and Administrator of Temisoara, and Bishop Silouan of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese for Hungary with the concelebration of Serbian, Romanian and Russian clergy.
At the end of the holy Liturgy Their Graces Hierarchs celebrated thanksgiving service for the last year and the service of supplications for the forthcoming New Year marked according to the Julian calendar.
The Serbian church in Szeged is dedicated to the feast-day of the Translation of the Relics of Saint Nicholas, and it was built from 1773 until 1778. Sharing brotherly love, the Serbian Diocese of Buda granted to the local Romanian Church community usage of the Szeged church, where according to an agreement with a local parish priest services were held also in Romanian until 2017, when a new Romanian chapel was consecrated in Szeged. The Romanian Consul in Szeged Tudor Adrian also attended the Holy Liturgy in Szeged.
