Feasts of Holy Archangels, of Saint Nektarios in Brussels
The Metropolis of Belgium celebrated the memory of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel and Saint Nektarios behind closed doors on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 November 2020.
Due to the COVID-19 preventive measures, the places of worship in the territory of Belgium remain closed during the services while their live-streaming is allowed so that the faithful can watch them and participate in this way in the liturgical life of the Church.
On both days, a hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Metropolitan Church of Holy Archangels by Metropolitan Athinagoras of Belgium while on the evening of November 8, the Metropolitan officiated the Great Vespers.
It should be noted that a section of the holy relic of Saint Nektarios is kept in the Metropolitan Church of Holy Archangels, which had been donated by the late Metropolitan of Hydra, Ierotheos. The scheduled events for the 100th anniversary since the repose of Saint Nektarios that would take place in the Metropolitan Church and many parishes in Belgium and the Netherlands were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Metropolitan of Belgium and the holy clergy, respecting the measures of the state, continue to officiate the religious services without the participation of the faithful inside the church. They wish and pray to God, with the help of God and the intercession of the Holy Archangels and Saint Nektarios, to stop the spread of the COVID-19 and to return to the normalcy.
