First spiritually scientific Symposium on female monasticism opens in the Zica monastery
In the Zica monastery, the endowment of Saint Sava and Saint Simeon (king Stephen the First Crowned) yesterday, on September 1, 2011 the first international spiritually scientific Symposium on female monasticism has solemnly commenced. The Symposium that began yesterday will last until September 4.
Continuing in our time on the spiritual path of Saint Sava and following his thought that spiritual learning is neither game nor a madness of human thoughts, but preached holy faith of God, the sisterhood of the Zica monastery gathered the most important theologians and clerics of Orthodoxy today.
Many guests from Russia, Greece, from Cypruss, from Israel, France, Poland, Romania, Syria, Georgia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska, Croatia and Serbia at first were welcomed by the president of the organisational committee of Symposium, His Grace Vicar Bishop Porfirije of Jegar, and then also by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch. The host of this gathering heugomene of Zica mother Jelena, the mayor of Kraljevo Mr. Ljubisa Simovic, president of the Serbian Academy of Sciencies and Arts Mr. Nikola Hajdin, president of Matica Srpska Mr. Cedomir Popov and the state secretary of the Ministry of faith and diaspora Mr. Predrag Tojic gave speeches to the assembled. Closing a ceremonial part, the guests were greeted also by competent Bishop Hrizostom of Zica.
The work of the Symposium, which will last until Sunday, began with a lecture of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral on female monasticism today in Serbia, and the first session of the symposium was presided by vicar Bishop Porfirije of Jegar.
