First week of Camp - Shadeland
After weeks of preparation and planning by Kolo President Millie Radovick and Vice President Deedee Baskot, along with Shadeland director Father Milan Pajic, Shadeland opened its 2019 camp season.
The children of week one, aged 7-17, just completed the summer program which was based on the theme “Blessed are the pure in heart.” The religious classes, which focused on this theme, as well as daily church services were led by spiritual fathers: V. Rev. Fr. Milan Pajic, V. Rev. Fr. Rodney Torbic, Rev. Fr. Sasa Nedic, and Rev. Fr. Aleksa Pavicevich.
In addition to religious classes, the campers also attended music and kolo classes, arts and crafts, science, as well as a kolach-making class held on Petrovdan. The classes were a great success with the efforts of our dedicated and loving counselors: 11 counselors and head counselor Natalie Dean.
The kids went through a rigorous schedule beginning with matins at 8:00 each morning, followed by breakfast and classes until lunchtime. The afternoons were taken up by free time where the children were at liberty to enjoy boating and fishing on the lake, swimming in the pool, and participation in various sports. The evenings consisted of vespers services followed by group activities and themed night celebrations. Some camper favorites of the week included the dunk tank Monday night where campers got to dunk their counselors and the camper verse counselor basketball game Wednesday night. They went on two excursions to Westway Bowling and the infamous and glorious Waldameer. The week concluded with a liturgy on Friday celebrating Saints Peter and Paul. The first week was a huge success and everyone looks forward to another successful week at Saint Sava Camp.
