Foundations of the Annunciation church consecrated in the Smederevo Fortress

His Grace Bishop Ignjatije of Branicevo consecrated today the foundations for the Annunciation church in the Smederevo fortress. This holy rite of the memory and the restoration of the old Orthodox church was attended by Mr. Predrag Markovic, Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society, Mr. Predrag Umicevic, President of the Smederevo municipality, Mrs. Jasna Avramovic, Deputy Mayor, Mr. Veroljub Jankovic, Director of Regional Bureau for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Smederevo and other representatives of the local authorities.

After the consecration of the foundations of the medieval Church, which was dedicated to the Annunciation of Most Holy Theotokos, according to the city archive, Mr. Veroljub Jankovic addressed the Bishop and citizens saying that it was the significant historicala event for our people and the strong evidence of the survival of the faith and the Orthodoxy in this region.
