Fourth Week of Camp - Shadeland

As the final week of the so far very successful Shadeland season began, counselors and staff were excited to have a record setting week with 120 campers.

Campers and volunteers settled in for the week, occupying every bed that Saint Sava camp had to offer. Dance and music instructors Nicole Bellich and Mary Magdic were ecstatic to teach the children traditional Serbian dances and songs to perform at the Shadeland Picnic. Additionally, Protonica Danijela Barac taught two beautiful songs for the children to perform.

With only 4 days to learn an entire show, the campers worked diligently and enthusiastically while never forgetting to have fun. Despite a very busy day, any minute of free time the children requested a kolo be put on, even dancing around the Sunday night bonfire.

The week was led by Rev. Fr George Veselinovic, Rev Fr. Vladislav Golic, Rev. Hieromonk Nektarije, and Rev Fr. Stefan Djoric.

It was a very eventful week filled with numerous events each night. Monday night campers raced through a bounce house and were also able to take their turn at dunking a counselor in the dunk tank. Wednesday night was a showdown between campers on the basketball court, with counselors refereeing and fellow campers cheering on. Friday night ended a great week with the Shadeland dance, playing countless kolos for the children to sing and dance.

We were also blessed to receive a visit from His Grace Bishop Irinej.

On Friday morning we were fortunate enough to have His Grace serve Liturgy as we celebrated Saint Elijah. The children also participated in a group religion class with His Grace and were given the opportunity to ask questions.

Saturday began with another liturgy served by His Grace Bishop Irinej and 22 priests from across the Diocese. After liturgy, the children performed in front of His Grace, priests, parents, and numerous guests, displaying their hard work and dedication they put forth all week long. It was a beautiful show that featured 16 graduating seniors, who will all God willingly return to our beloved Shadeland camp as counselors.

Overall, the 4th Week of Shadeland was a wonderful ending to another amazing camp season.
