To glory and honor of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky
His Holiness Porfirije, the Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy in the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Belgrade, with the concelebration of Their Graces Bishops Nazari of Kronstadt of the Moscow Patriarchate and Justin of Hvosno, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, on 18 November 2021.
After the Holy Liturgy, the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije consecrated a monument of Saint Alexander Nevsky in the courtyard of the church on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the birth of that great benefactor of God. On that occasion, the solemn act of twinning of Belgrade and Saint Petersburg was performed by the mayor of the Serbian capital, Dr. Zoran Radojicic, and the governor of Saint Petersburg, Mr. Alexander Beglov.
The ceremony was attended by Minister Dr. Nenad Popovic, Ambassador of the Russian Federation Mr. Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, Deputy Mayor Mr. Goran Vesic and members of the delegation of the city of St. Petersburg. The bronze bust with a pedestal weighs 2.15 tons, and the height of the bronze sculpture is 1.15 meters. The words of Saint Alexander Nevsky are engraved in golden letters on the monument in Russian and Serbian: "God is not in power, but in truth." The bust was made in the Krasnodar region, and its author is Anatoly Dementyev, a sculptor and a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, who is also the author of the monument to Pushkin in Azov and Chekhov in Taganrog.
