A great procession in Vienna concerning the situation in Montenegro
The procession was headed by His Grace Bishop Andrej of Austria and Switzerland and followed by the clergy of Vienna and the faithful.
A procession in support to the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro was organized in Vienna on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, 8 March 2020. Icons were carried, observing an ancient custom because on this feast day victory of Orthodoxy over iconoclasm was declared. The faithful gathered at the Schwarzenbergplaz, from where they went chanting hymns thereby conveying joy along the city streets until the Heldenplatz, where some of the most significant institutions in Austria are located.
The procession was headed by His Grace Bishop Andrej of Austria and Switzerland and accompanied by the clergy of Vienna. At the Heldenplatz a prayer of supplication (moleban) for the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro was offered, an appeal addressed to the Austrian public and authorities was read, whereas Bishop Andrej delivered an address on the situation in Montenegro and the efforts undertaken by the Diocese of Austria-Switzerland in order to support brothers and sisters in that country and their holy shrines. It was estimated that c. 4,000 people participated in the procession.
