Holy Hierarchal Liturgy served at midnight on Easter at St Sava Cathedral on Vrachar
On the greatest Christian feast day in all churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the country and abroad was praying and joyous. In the greatest temple of our Holy Church a Holy Liturgy was served at midnight, and the faithful were coming to the Communion cup so as to feel all the force of the Resurrection of Christ by taking communion with the Living God.
At the St Sava Cathedral on Vrachar at midnight, His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral with the blessing and on behalf of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of fifteen priests and deacons.
After the winding-sheet was placed on the Holy Table, a procession circling three times around the Cathedral followed, while the bells rang pointing at magnificence and an importance of Christ's Resurrection for our faith in our own Resurrection in Kingdom of Heaven. Metropolitan Amfilohije led the procession together with priests, while deacons incensed. Many faithful sang Christ has resurrected from the dead...
After the hymn, Metropolitan blessed the portal with a cross three times, opened the Cathedral and along with the priests entered through widely opened door. The people chanted cheerfully the hymn of Resurrection and filled the proof of faith of Serbs in God - the St Sava Cathedral.
Following a chanted canon and a theme-song, a collect-hymn, an oikos which celebrate Christ' s victory over death, Metropolitan Amfilohije along with priesthood brought out Cross, Gospel and icon which the faithful kissed along with an Easter cheerful exclamation: CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY, HE IS RISEN!
Hymns and antiphons were cheerfully chanted at the beginning of the Holy liturgy. During the liturgy the gathered faithful received the communion with Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. The Easter epistle of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia was read by protopresbyter Dr Luka Novakovic , head of the St Sava Cathedral.
At the Holy liturgy were present representatives of the Government of Serbia, minister of faith Dr Bogoljub Shijakovic, secretary of state Dragan Churovic, representatives of the Roman Catholic church as well as many other distinguished people of the Serbian capital.
