Holy Liturgy on Easter at the Cathedral church in Belgrade

A joyous Christian feast day - the Resurrection of Our Lord, in the Archbishopric Belgrade and Karlovac was celebrated with the Divine Liturgy, not just at midnight but also on Sunday morning, at churches full of pious people of the Serbian capital - the people anxious about meeting with the Resurrected Lord through communion by His Body and Blood.

At the Cathedral church in Belgrade, His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvonso, vicar of the patriarch, on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy beginning at 9 in the morning. His Grace Bishop served with concelebration of priesthood and deacons of the Archbishopric Belgrade and Karlovac.

After placing winding-sheet on the Lord's Table, Bishop and priesthood led people in procession three times around the church, while bells were ringing and also pointing at the significance of the Christ's Resurrection for our faith in our own Resurrection in Kingdom of Heaven. Many faithful joyously chanted hymn: Christ has resurrected from the dead...

Following a chanted canon and a theme-song, a collect-hymn, an oikos which celebrate Christ' s victory over death, Bishop Atanasije along with priesthood brought a cross, a gospel and an icon which the faithful kissed along with a cheerful exclamation: CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY, HE IS RISEN!

During the Holy Liturgy the Easter Epistle of Patriarch Pavle of Serbia was read. After the Holy Communion the faithful remained in a joyous conversation with Bishop Atanasije and priests.
