Inauguration of new church and ordination of a deacon in Kampala by the Patriarch of Alexandria
On 8th November 2015, the last day of the Patriarchal Pastoral visit to the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, inaugurated the Holy Church of St Sophia in Kampala, and then conducted the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy, together with His Eminence Jonas of Kampala, Narkissos of Nubia and His Grace Innocent of Burundi and Rwanda. During the Eucharistic gathering, His Beatitude ordained to the Diaconate the graduate of the St Athanasios of Alexandria Patriarchal Academy, Fr. Patrikios, to whom he wished a productive ministry in the spiritual field of the Lord, to the Glory of His Holy Name.
He also consecrated to the rank of Protopresbyter the Parish Priest Fr. Emmanuel, praising his excellent priestly ministry, and prior to the Dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, he thanked the local Metropolitan Jonas for his exceptional organization of the Patriarchal visit to Uganda, as well as for his continued presence beside His Beatitude, despite his ill health.
In conclusion the Alexandrian Primate attended a dinner hosted in his honour by His Excellency the Ambassador of Egypt to Uganda, Mr. Ahmed Abdel Aziz Mostafa, with the members of his honoured entourage present, as well as the President of Parliament of the country, Mr. Jacob Oulanya, whom he asked to convey his fervent gratitude to the President of the Country for all facilitation granted to the activities of the Orthodox Mission in Uganda.
