Sremska Mitrovica: acquiring rights of the free practice of religion

In the ancient city of Sirmium, today’s Sremska Mitrovica, 17 centuries since acquiring rights of free practice of religion was commemorated.  His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, along with Their Graces Bishops: Vasilije of Srem, Irinej of Backa and Lukijan of Osek-Polje, celebrated the Divine Hierarchal Liturgy. The clergy of the Diocese of Srem and the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovac concelebrated.

The city of Saint Irineus, Saint Demetrius, Saint Anastasia and many other martyrs of Sirmium, the city of Saint Constantine the Great in which he lived and in which his son Constantius II was born, welcomed His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch.

After the Liturgy  the faithful used the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to some adjacent Fruska Gora monasteries.

The church choir „Saint Sava“ at the Cathedral church of Saint Demetrius in Sremska Mitrovica and the choir of the Diocese of Srem enhanced the celebration singing responses.
