Kolo slava celebration in Johnstown
Sunday, September 28, 2014 was a joyous day in the life of St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church. His Grace, Bishop Mitrophan together with V. Rev. Miroslav Simijionovic, Rev. Dragan Zaric, the parishioners and friends of the parish assembled to celebrate the parish Kolo Sistara’s Slava, The Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and Virgin Mary.
The day began with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy followed by the blessing of the newly installed fresco of our Lord Jesus Christ. The parish choir sang the responses to the Divine Liturgy and fresco blessing beautifully. After the Divine Liturgy the Slava service was celebrated. Then everyone gathered for the festival banquet and program in the parish hall.
The honored guests were His Grace, Bishop Mitrophan , the V. Rev. Dr. Miroslav Simijonovic, professor of theology and the iconographer from Zurich, Switzerland;V. Rev. Fr. Donald Shadid of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Johnstown, PA ; V. Rev. Fr. George Johnson of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Johnstown, PA and Rev. Fr. Milan Medakovicof Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church in Youngwood, PA.
The Parish Priest and the Parish Executive Board is thankful for their continuous support and holy prayers of the parishioners and friends of the parish. The priest and board are especially thankful for the Antony Horbal Family that donated the fresco in memory of their mother, Dorothy Horbal, and the Curcuja Family. The priest and board would also we would like to thank this year’s Kuma Danica Wess.
