The Liturgy and Requiem of the late Bishop Lukijan
Hierarchs, clergy, monks, nuns and faithful of the Serbian Orthodox Church, family, friends and many admirers of Bishop Lucian gathered in the Dalj Cathedral of St. Demetrius united in the prayer for the repose of the soul of the late Bishop, who for the last 26 years wisely and lovingly headed the God-saved Diocese of Osijek-Polje and Baranja.
The Holy Requiem Liturgy was presided over by Bishop Basil of Srem, with the concelebration of His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa - administrator of this vacant Diocese, as well as by Their Graces Bishops:Jovan of Sumadia, Atanasije of Bihac-Petrovac, David of Krusevac and Sergije of Middle Europe.
The Requiem Rite was headed by His Eminence Porfirije, Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana, with the concelebration of Bishop Lukijan of Budapest, Ignatije of Branicevo, elected Bishop oh Nis Arsenije, retired Bishop Vasilije of Zvornik and Tuzla as well as of the retired Bishop Konstantin of Middle Europe. The memorial service was attended by numerous priests and monks from several dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Divine Liturgy and Requiem Rite was attended by the Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities of the Republic of Serbia Dr. Mileta Radojevic, General Consul of the Republic of Serbia in Vukovar Milan Sapic, Archbishop of Djakovo-Osijek Djuro Hranic, director of the Office of the Croatian Government for relations with religious communities Sime Jercic, President of the Serbian National Council Milorad Pupovac, president of the Joint Council of Municipalities Dragan Crnogorac as well as by many other representatives of cultural and public life.
The liturgical homily was held by Bishop Vasilije of Srem. The Bishop of Backa and administrator of the Diocese of Osijek-Polje and Baranja Irinej delivered a sermon at the Requiem rite, whereas Archpriest-Stavrophor Ratomir Petrovic spoke on behalf of the clergy and monks and nuns of the Diocese.
After the funeral, the body of the late Bishop Lukijan , at his request, was placed in the crypt of the Cathedral in Dalj.
