The Mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, met Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew today, January 18, 2020.

Mayor Konstantinos Zervas spoke on behalf of the people of the historic city of Macedonia and expressed their great respect for the Ecumenical Patriarch. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew thanked the Mayor of Thessaloniki for their interest in the Mother Church and especially for their devotion to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

The Mayor of Thessaloniki will visit Tirilye in Bursa Province, in Turkey, which is the place of origin of his parents. According to the Julian calendar, the Ecumenical Patriarch will for a second time preside over the Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Epiphany at the Church of Panagia. He will then perform the Great Blessing of the Waters at the port of the town. It is worth mentioning that many Slavic-speaking Orthodox Christians live in the town of Tirilye who belong to the Holy Metropolis of Bursa.
